GOOD
HEALTH IS A STATE OF BODY AND MIND
Health
is more than the absence of disease
— it is the presence of energy, relaxation
and joy! Do you value your health as
the resource that it is? Do you really
understand the concept of preventive
and holistic medicine?
The one and only
way to prevent dis-ease is to take good
care of ourselves. Good care begins
when we acknowledge that health is a
state of both mind and body. What is
your body to you? Is it just a vehicle
to take you places and accomplish life’s
work? Do you tend to ignore it until
it hurts? I have news for you.
Your
body does not complain until it has to. I am always
surprised when I visit my chiropractor or massage therapist.
I come in feeling fine. Then the therapist presses on
a muscle and “ouch.” The absence of pain does not indicate
that all is truly well with your body. If you were to
lie on my massage table right now, I would likely find
several areas that are in distress, even though the
soft tissues are not yet complaining.
By
the time the body complains with pain, conditions are
approaching severe. So please, don’t wait until you
hurt to practice good care of your body. It is always
more expensive to treat and cure a major pain problem
than it is to receive a monthly massage focused on keeping
your soft tissues healthy.
Please
understand. Many factors affect the health of your muscles
and joints. These include:
- posture
- previous
injuries
- work
habits
- exercise
- weight
- whether
pain is acute or chronic
- how
long you have tolerated pain or restriction
Taking
care of yourself means paying attention to these factors
and making healthy choices.
Other
factors include your personal attitudes, the health
of your relationships, how much you love yourself and
others, and how well you manage stress.
At
Harmonia Medical Massage, we help your body heal itself
by applying scientific manual therapy, and we help you
achieve mind-body wellness by supporting you on mental
and spiritual levels.
Here
is my goal for you. I want you to live with enthusiasm,
purpose, inspiration and love. I want you to say “Yes!”
to this statement — “I value my body as an integral
part of my being, the way I value my mind, relationships
and work. I enjoy physical activity and I am glad my
body feels good and functions well. I am committed to
taking care of my body because I want to live with energy,
relaxation and joy.
Harmonia
Center for Healing is a place to come to heal, a place
to learn and grow, a place to experience love and acceptance
and a place of peace.

A
CLEAN BODY IS A HEALTHY BODY
Lymphatic
Massage Helps Keep Your Cells in a Clean
Environment
Have
you tried lymphatic drainage massage?
We have used it successfully to
help cure colds, flu, sinus infections,
earaches and shingles. The lymphatic
system is a critical part of your immune
system. Its main function is to
help keep your body clean. The lymph
system removes dead cells, bacteria,
viruses, waste products and other unwanted
elements from the fluid environment
surrounding the cells.
Lymph
drainage therapy has been used successfully
before and after surgery for many years,
especially in Europe where it is prescribed
commonly by physicians. We are just
beginning to learn its usages in preventative
medicine. Lymphatic drainage massage
increases the volume of flow of lymph
up to twenty times. You also can assist
the movement of your lymph by exercising
and by practicing correct diaphragmatic
breathing.
Lymph
fluid, vessels, and nodes are everywhere in your body,
both at the superficial and at the deep tissue levels.
All lymph vessels lead to lymph nodes. Lymph nodes
can be as small as the head of a pin, or as big as an
olive. The lymph nodes produce various types of lymphocytes.
Lymphocytes destroy harmful substances within the body,
and are an important part of the immune system.
There
are 400-700 lymph nodes in the body, half of which are
located in the abdomen. On a deep level, lymph nodes
surround the aorta, the pancreas, spleen and other organs.
Most people are aware of the lymph nodes just
under the chin and in the neck, as these can be manually
felt when they are swollen. Lymph nodes are also
distributed throughout the head, especially around the
sinuses.
The
primary function of lymph nodes is to filter and purify
the lymph and interstitial fluids. The lymph nodes reabsorb
about 40% of the liquid content of the lymph. This makes
the lymph thicker. Because of this thickening and the
filtering process, the lymph nodes offer the greatest
resistance to the flow of lymph. In fact the lymph nodes
offer about 15 times more resistance than the vessels
themselves. Lymphatic drainage massage can help overcome
this resistance and get the lymph flowing.
Joan
Sloss highly recommends that you receive lymphatic drainage
massage at least four times per year. The best
time to receive it is at the beginning of a change of
season. It will help your body ward-off infectious
disease. Joan also recommends that you receive
a lymph drainage massage anytime you feel tired, or
feel a cold or sinus infection coming on. A clean
body is a healthy body.
